Repair of an Attenuated Low-Passage Murine Cytomegalovirus Bacterial Artificial Chromosome Identifies a Novel Spliced Gene Essential for Salivary Gland Tropism

The cloning of herpesviruses as bacterial artificial chromosomes (BAC) has revolutionized the study of herpesvirus biology, allowing rapid and precise manipulation of viral genomes. Several clinical strains of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) have been cloned as BACs; however, no low-passage strains of murine CMV, which provide a model mimicking these isolates, have been cloned. Here, the low-passage G4 strain of was BAC cloned. G4 carries an m157 gene that does not ligate the natural killer cell-activating receptor, Ly49H, meaning that unlike laboratory strains of MCMV, this virus replicates well in C57BL/6 mice.

Ambient Air Pollution, Extreme Temperatures and Birth Outcomes: A Protocol for an Umbrella Review, Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Prenatal exposure to ambient air pollution and extreme temperatures are among the major risk factors of adverse birth outcomes and with potential long-term effects during the life course. Although low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are most vulnerable, there is limited synthesis of evidence in such settings. This document describes a protocol for both an umbrella review (Systematic Review 1) and a focused systematic review and meta-analysis of studies from LMICs (Systematic Review 2).

Timeliness and factors associated with rotavirus vaccine uptake among Australian Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children: A record linkage cohort study

Aboriginal children are at greater risk of rotavirus disease than non-Aboriginal children and delayed vaccine receipt is substantially higher

Research

Multiple risk exposures for reading achievement in childhood and adolescence

Across 6 years of school, multiple risk-exposed children lagged behind low risk-exposed children in the order of years of lost gains in reading achievement

Bronchodilator responsiveness in children with asthma is not influenced by spacer device selection

Spacer device was not associated with clinically important differences in lung function following bronchodilator inhalation in children with asthma

Single Parasternal-Long-Axis-View-Sweep Screening Echocardiographic Protocol to Detect Rheumatic Heart Disease: A Prospective Study of Diagnostic Accuracy

Echocardiographic screening in school-aged children can detect rheumatic heart disease (RHD) prior to the manifestation of symptoms of heart failure.

The controlled direct effect of temperament at 2-3 years on cognitive and academic outcomes at 6-7 years

Overall, temperament had small associations with cognitive and academic outcomes after accounting for parenting and confounders

Tricho-hepatic-enteric syndrome (THES) without intractable diarrhoea

We report an 8 year old girl who was diagnosed with THES by the Undiagnosed Disease Program-WA with compound heterozygous pathogenic variants in SKIV2L

Research

The evolution of local food environments within established neighbourhoods and new developments in Perth, Western Australia

People living in new developments, and low SES areas of Perth, may be disadvantaged with poorer access to healthy food and greater exposure to unhealthy food outlets

Risk factors and prognosis of recurrent wheezing in Chinese young children: A prospective cohort study

We aimed to investigate the risk factors for different wheezing phenotypes in Chinese young children and to explore the prognosis of recurrent wheezing
