The proliferation of fast-food outlets in residential areas has raised growing concerns about their impact on community health, safety, and wellbeing. This qualitative study examined both pre-development community consultation submissions and post-development resident experiences surrounding the development of a McDonald's outlet in a newly established suburb on the urban fringe of Perth, Western Australia.
Systemic Epstein-Barr virus-positive T-cell lymphoma of childhood (STCLC) is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy with a dismal prognosis and no standard curative treatment. This report describes the first reported case of STCLC in a White child who, after experiencing failure with intensive chemotherapy regimens, achieved a complete response following targeted immunotherapy.
Global rates of invasive Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) disease surged from September 2022, exceeding pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, showing atypical seasonality and disproportionately affecting children. We previously described the epidemiology of iGAS among Australian children from mid-2018 to end 2022 using data from the Paediatric Active Enhanced Diseases network and here provide updated clinical epidemiology for 2023 and 2024 to help inform public health strategies.

Post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), or long COVID, are a public health concern. While most recover from SARS-CoV-2 infections within weeks, some experience persistent symptoms. Here, we quantified the association between repeated SARS-CoV-2 infections and the risk of hospital-diagnosed PASC.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has a complex inheritance pattern and is more common in males. Etiologic models suggest that most ASD risk is transmitted through common and rare de novo genetic variation. It has been hypothesized that rare variation could be inherited and therefore contribute to the overall risk burden in subsequent generations, especially through female lineage in disorders with male-skewed sex ratios.
