Estimated survival gains from pulselessness-detection technologies in unwitnessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Western Australia: a simulation study

In Australia, two-thirds of emergency medical service attended out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are unwitnessed, and survival is <5% in this group. With the recent incorporation of pulselessness-detection technologies into consumer wearable devices such as smartwatches, the potential exists to convert unwitnessed arrests into device-witnessed cases.

More Convergence on Coercion: Reflecting on Vaccine Mandates in 2026; A Response to Recent Commentaries

As we finalised our analysis of the adoption of mandatory policies for childhood vaccines in four high-income jurisdictions for our publication, “Convergence on Coercion,” every country on earth was grappling with how to drive uptake of COVID-19 vaccines.

Cost constraints in supporting the Healthy Living Practices in remote Aboriginal communities: A Western Australian perspective

The Healthy Living Practices (HLPs) outline nine essential guidelines for maintaining health in remote Aboriginal communities, yet high costs and poor availability make them financially out of reach for many families. We assessed the cost and availability of essential goods required to support the HLPs in eight remote Kimberley community stores, recording prices during three visits in 2022 as part of the SToP (See, Treat, Prevent) Skin Sores and Scabies Trial, and retrospectively comparing these (inflation-adjusted) with Perth and Broome prices in 2024.

Perspectives of Children, Parents, and Healthcare Providers on Outcomes after Anesthesia for Surgery: An International Mixed Methods Stakeholder Engagement Study

The authors' international collaboration of researchers and clinicians was established to develop core outcome sets for infants, children, and adolescents. Here, the authors report on a qualitative mixed methods study with semistructured interviews of parents/guardians and their children undergoing anesthesia for surgery along with perioperative healthcare providers.

A randomized prospective study of neonatal hepatitis B vaccine immunogenicity in The Gambia and Papua New Guinea

Protection of newborns from infection can be achieved through maternal or vaccine-induced antibodies, but the factors influencing vaccine protection (correlate of protection) and subsequent infant immunity remain insufficiently understood. Further investigation is essential to optimize early-life vaccination strategies.

Global burden of enteric infectious diseases, diarrhoeal diseases, and corresponding aetiologies, 1990–2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023

Enteric infectious diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are among the top ten causes of death in children younger than 5 years. Remarkable global investment has been dedicated to enteric infectious disease prevention and control; however, the shifting global health landscape is testing the continuance of progress.

Single-cell RNA sequencing profiles drug activity within spatially engineered 3D cultures

Spatial transcriptomic techniques provide a wealth of information useful in guiding drug development, while three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures have demonstrated power in accelerating drug approvals. However, techniques for robust spatial analysis of 3D cultures are limited. Here, we present a transfection-based method for constructing cellular spheroids through a layer-by-layer approach, in which DNA barcodes encode the spatial positioning of cells.

First global synthesis of heat-related mental health impacts in children and young people: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of non-optimal temperatures and heatwaves, posing risks to public health, especially for children and young people. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the impacts of (i) non-optimal ambient temperatures and (ii) heatwaves on mental health outcomes in this group globally.

Safety and efficacy of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor in children ≥2 years with cystic fibrosis: 96-week interim results from a phase 3 open-label extension study

Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor(ELX/TEZ/IVA) was safe and efficacious in children with CF 2-5y with at least one F508del allele in 24-week phase 3 Trial 445-111. Children who completed 445-111 were eligible for the long-term safety and efficacy extension trial.
